Severe Storms Cause Damage and Power Outages Across Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — Severe thunderstorms swept through Oklahoma early Saturday morning, bringing damaging winds and tornado warnings, resulting in widespread power outages and significant damage.

At around 6:02 a.m., a tornado warning was issued for Latimer and Pittsburg counties until 6:45 a.m. A severe thunderstorm warning also affected Adair and Sequoyah counties until 6:30 a.m.

Heavy rain accompanied the storms, with meteorologists reporting wind gusts exceeding 60 mph and hail up to the size of golf balls. Several tornado warnings were issued throughout the morning, including one in Adair County until 6:15 a.m.

During the storm, Shane Helton, a storm chaser, reported damage to a railroad crossing gate in Pond Creek, highlighting the impact of powerful winds in the area. Other reports indicated widespread tree damage and debris scattered across northern Oklahoma after severe storms passed through.

As of 2:35 a.m., over 5,300 customers in Oklahoma were without power, according to PowerOutage.us. Areas impacted included Kay, Noble, Payne, Osage, and Wagoner counties.

Meteorologist Joseph Neubauer warned residents to remain vigilant as storms moved towards Arkansas. The National Weather Service observed that rain continued across Oklahoma, although severe storm warnings were lifted in some areas.

Storms are expected to persist throughout Saturday afternoon and evening, posing an ongoing risk for severe weather conditions.
