Severe Storms and Tornadoes Ravage North Texas and Louisiana

Severe Thunderstorm and Tornado watches have been issued for more than 10 million people in Texas and neighboring Louisiana as the region faces extreme weather.

DALLAS – Powerful storms wreaked havoc in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and Houston on Tuesday, leaving over 1,000,000 utility customers without power. The storms brought baseball-sized hail, high-force wind gusts, and significant damage across several communities.

Outdoor warning sirens sounded, and emergency notifications blared on cellphones as the National Weather Service issued numerous warnings across North Texas. Dallas County experienced widespread power outages, expected to last for days.

Outdoor sirens blared in Dallas in the early morning as severe thunderstorms pounded the city. Moreover, a state of emergency declaration was prepared due to the severe weather and power outages.

Recent tornadoes have wreaked havoc in Texas, with one tornado causing fatalities and injuries near a Texas community. The Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and North Texas suffered significant damage, with millions bracing for further severe weather.

In Collin County, hail as large as pingpong balls and half-dollars fell in various communities. Videos showed intense thunderstorms with lightning, heavy rain, and damaging winds sweeping through Carrollton, Texas.

The severe storm system caused extreme wind gusts near Dallas Love Field Airport and areas like Forney and Dallas. The storms snapped trees, collapsed structures, and triggered multiple crashes.

As the storm passed through Houston, it shattered glass in downtown skyscrapers. Outside the city, homes under construction in Magnolia, Texas, collapsed during the severe weather.

Millions of people in Texas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Colorado are under severe weather watches. Houston, Lubbock, Pasadena, Beaumont, and Midland face a Level 3 risk for severe weather, while other cities are at a Level 2 risk.

Dangerous wind gusts, large hail, and tornado threats continue across Texas. The region expects significant rainfall over the coming days, with scattered thunderstorms posing a risk of flooding in some areas.

Given the prolonged threat of severe weather over a vast stretch of the country, officials urge caution and preparedness as storms are forecasted to persist with potential life-threatening impacts.
