MILWAUKEE, Wis. — A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for Milwaukee, Racine, and Kenosha counties until 2:45 p.m. on June 3, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

The Milwaukee-Sullivan NWS office issued the warning after severe thunderstorms were detected near Whitewater at 1:38 p.m., moving eastward at 50 mph.

Meteorologists, including Kevin Wagner of the NWS, have warned of winds reaching 60 mph and hail measuring up to 0.75 inches. Rain is anticipated to begin in the Milwaukee area shortly, with heavy downpours and strong winds expected to continue for 15 to 20 minutes, followed by lighter rain.

The NWS has also alerted residents in areas including Kenosha, West Allis, New Berlin, and Greenfield to expect potential damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

Kenosha is expected to experience the strongest winds, and reports of downed trees have already come from Walworth County.

A separate severe thunderstorm warning is currently in effect for Rock County. Attendees at the Music at the Marv festival in Janesville have been urged to seek shelter immediately.

<pWagner emphasized, “If you are in any of the warning areas, pay attention and seek shelter.”

A severe thunderstorm is defined as an area experiencing or about to experience winds of 58 mph or higher and/or hail measuring one inch in diameter or larger.
