Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued for Allegany County

CUMBERLAND, Md. — A severe thunderstorm warning is currently in effect for north central Allegany County, with impacts expected until 7 PM EST today. The National Weather Service reported a severe thunderstorm located near Cumberland, moving northeast at 25 mph.
The storm is accompanied by hazardous conditions, including wind gusts reaching 60 mph and quarter-sized hail. Radar indicated these severe weather conditions, which could result in damaging winds that may cause trees and large branches to fall.
“This storm poses a significant threat to anyone outdoors, as it can lead to serious injuries or damage to homes and vehicles,” said meteorologist Maria Simmons. “Roadways could also be blocked by downed trees, creating hazardous travel conditions.” Local officials have noted the possibility of power outages due to the storm.
Some of the areas impacted by the severe weather include Flintstone, Pleasant Valley, and parts of Cumberland. Residents in these locations are advised to take precautions for their safety.
In light of this severe weather, the National Weather Service urges individuals to seek shelter in interior rooms on the lowest floor of their homes or buildings. Unsecured outdoor objects may become dangerous projectiles due to the strong winds, so residents are encouraged to secure anything that could be blown away.
