Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued for Dallas-Fort Worth Area

DALLAS, Texas — The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for the Dallas–Fort Worth area, effective until 2 a.m. Sunday. Thunderstorms are expected to develop, bringing the risk of large hail and damaging winds throughout the night.
The initial wave of storms will continue into Sunday morning, with the potential for severe weather as a cold front moves southward from Oklahoma. Meteorologists indicate the storm activity could be spotty, but any storm that develops poses a significant risk to residents.
“This system has the potential to produce severe thunderstorms, particularly east of Dallas-Fort Worth during the evening hours of Sunday,” said a meteorologist from the National Weather Service. “It’s important for residents to stay weather aware and take appropriate precautions.”
On Sunday afternoon, the threat of thunderstorms is expected to increase as the cold front continues to push through the region. Damaging winds and large hail remain the primary threats as these storms form.
The storms are predicted to move eastward out of the Dallas-Fort Worth area on Sunday evening, leading to drier conditions overnight and into Monday. Following the severe weather, a brief period of cool-down with sunshine is expected for Monday.
“While the storms are not expected to be widespread, they can still be quite impactful,” the meteorologist added. “Any residents in areas where storms develop should remain alert.”
The forecast for early next week includes a mix of sunny skies and mild temperatures, but models indicate that another round of storm activity could affect the area mid-week, with some North Texas locations potentially receiving over two inches of rainfall by next weekend.
Residents are advised to stay tuned to local news outlets, such as NBC 5, for the latest updates on the weather situation. Getting timely information can be crucial in preparation for severe weather events.
