Southeastern Michigan Thunderstorms Weather Forecast

SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN — Strong thunderstorms are expected to impact southeastern Michigan on Friday night, according to the National Weather Service. The agency has issued a slight risk (Level 2 out of 5) for severe thunderstorms from Friday evening into the night.

A warm front moving through the region will push afternoon temperatures into the upper 70s, with some areas possibly reaching the low 80s. Meteorologists indicate that while showers and thunderstorms may start developing later in the day, the heaviest storms are anticipated after 8 p.m. Friday.

The main threats from these storms include heavy downpours, large hail measuring up to one inch in diameter, and wind gusts potentially reaching 60 miles per hour. “The timing of this front is crucial. Storms are expected to develop later in the evening when temperatures will have cooled, which reduces the likelihood of severe weather,” said Kim Adams, a meteorologist with 4Warn Weather.

As the storms move through Friday night, they are predicted to diminish during the overnight hours, although brief showers may linger into Saturday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

Following the thunderstorms, the region will see a cool-down. Temperatures are expected to drop below 70 degrees over the weekend as a cold front moves in, bringing additional rain chances. Forecasts indicate that Saturday will begin with lingering showers, with highs around 66 degrees and lows dipping to 43.

Looking ahead to Easter Sunday, residents can expect a cool start with rain possibilities in the evening. The Sunday high is projected to be 56 degrees, with a low of 46.
