Severe Weather Alert: Storms and Rain Expected in D.C. Area Tonight

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The D.C. region is bracing for more rain and potential storms as Thursday night approaches, following a bright start to the day. The storms are expected to coincide with the evening commute, bringing significant weather challenges.
According to 7News First Alert Meteorologist Mark Peña, residents should prepare for widespread showers and possibly severe weather conditions. “If you are heading out for your dinner plans, make sure that you are grabbing the rain gear, because we do expect more widespread showers throughout Thursday night,” Peña said.
The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of Stafford and King George counties in Virginia earlier Thursday, where wind gusts reached up to 60 mph and quarter-sized hail was reported. The alert lasted from 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
As the night progresses, rain is expected to linger with occasional thunder. Temperatures will drop to the 50s and lower 60s by morning. “Your Friday, again, keep the rain gear handy. The severe threat is pretty much nonexistent, but we do expect more showers throughout the day,” Peña added.
Friday’s forecast predicts high temperatures will only reach the low 60s, with continued chances of rain and showers in the area. By Friday night, skies are expected to clear, leading to a chilly but clear evening.
Looking ahead to the weekend, the weather is set to improve significantly. Saturday will have a crisp morning with temperatures in the 40s, warming up to around 75 degrees by afternoon. Mother’s Day on Sunday is expected to feel even warmer, with highs in the low 80s and sunny skies forecasted.
Residents are encouraged to stay informed as weather conditions develop and to prepare for changing weather patterns.
