Washington D.c. Severe Weather Forecast

WASHINGTON, D.C. (AP) — The Washington D.C. region is preparing for heavy rain and possible storms starting Thursday afternoon. These wet conditions are expected to extend through the workweek, closing out Friday.

Even though Thursday began with sunshine, meteorologists warn that rain and storms are on the way. Eileen Whelan, a meteorologist with 7News, stated, “Temperatures will climb into the mid to upper 70s by this afternoon, with a mix of sun and clouds. Our next weather maker, though, knocking on our door will bring us rain and storm chances heading into the evening hours.”

According to Whelan, an isolated shower or storm may occur in the afternoon, although most of the wet weather is not projected to arrive until after 6 p.m. She added, “One or two storms could produce damaging winds and heavy rain that could lead to localized flooding.”

Heavy downpours are expected overnight, with temperatures dropping into the 50s and lower 60s. Friday is forecasted to remain cool, with highs in the low 60s and more rain anticipated. The D.C. area could see between a half-inch and an inch of rain by the end of Friday night.

For those with weekend plans, there’s some good news. The rain and storms are expected to subside by Friday at 6 p.m., giving way to drier conditions for Saturday and Sunday. Forecasts show Saturday morning will start in the 40s but may warm up to around 75 degrees by the afternoon. Mother’s Day on Sunday is expected to bring similar conditions, with temperatures reaching the low 80s.

In summary, as the workweek progresses, residents should remain vigilant for potentially severe weather while looking forward to a drier and warmer weekend ahead.
