NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana — Basketball legend Shaquille O'Neal has agreed to take on the role of men’s basketball general manager at Sacramento State, confirmed sources to KCRA 3‘s Michelle Dapper. This appointment, announced on April 28, 2025, is set to be a voluntary position, meaning O’Neal will not receive a salary.

Shaq’s involvement comes as his son, Shaqir O’Neal, prepares to play for Sacramento State after transferring from Florida A&M. The addition of Shaq is expected to bring a wealth of experience and prestige to the program, which is also seeing former Sacramento Kings star Mike Bibby step in as head coach.

It is still unclear what specific duties O’Neal will undertake in his role as general manager. Basketball fans and those connected to the program are eager to see how his participation will influence the team’s future.

KCRA has reached out to Sacramento State for additional details on O’Neal’s role and plans for the upcoming season.
