All-rounder Shivam Dube has been ruled out of India’s upcoming three-match T20I series against Bangladesh due to a back injury. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made the announcement on the eve of the first T20I scheduled to take place in Gwalior. “All-rounder Shivam Dube is ruled out of the three-match T20I series owing to a back injury,” stated the BCCI.

The Senior Selection Committee has named young Mumbai Indians (MI) batter Tilak Varma as Dube’s replacement. The statement indicated that Tilak is expected to join the squad in Gwalior by Sunday morning, ahead of the series opener. Tilak Varma will step into the void left by Dube, as the latter has been an integral part of the Indian T20I squad, having played 33 matches, scoring 448 runs and taking 11 wickets.

The injury reportedly resurfaced during a training session in Mumbai, prior to the commencement of the series. The discomfort persisted after the team reached Gwalior, leading to Dube’s withdrawal. Conversely, Tilak Varma, at 21, has amassed experience with 16 T20 internationals, during which he scored 336 runs and contributed with a couple of wickets with his slow bowling.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has confirmed Varma’s inclusion in the updated squad. The revised team list for India now includes: Suryakumar Yadav (Captain), Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson (wicketkeeper), Rinku Singh, Hardik Pandya, Riyan Parag, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Varun Chakaravarthy, Jitesh Sharma (wicketkeeper), Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, Mayank Yadav, and Tilak Varma.
