One person has tragically lost their life, while three others have been hospitalized following a shooting at a residence in Woodbridge, located in Vaughan.

The incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. at a home situated on Casa Nova Drive, near Davos Road, within the vicinity of Major MacKenzie Drive and Weston Road.

According to Const. Lisa Moskaluk of the York Regional Police, one individual was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, while two more were taken for treatment due to serious but non-life-threatening wounds after being discovered inside the house.

Regrettably, one of the victims was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Evidence so far points towards a targeted and isolated event, with no immediate danger to the general public, Const. Moskaluk briefed reporters outside the premises.

The relationship between the individuals shot or their connection to the residence remains undisclosed at this time.

Neighbours recounted feelings of shock upon hearing the gunfire, with one resident describing hearing an initial burst of 10 gunshots followed by a brief pause and then five to six more shots.

Another neighbour named Lorenzo shared that, during the incident, he was on his way to drop off his sister at school when a fellow neighbour urgently warned him to retreat back into their home. This neighbour caught a glimpse of an individual they suspected to be the perpetrator, who swiftly fled the scene.

Previous troubling incidents at the residence have come to light, including reports that vehicles in the driveway were set ablaze on Christmas Day last December. Though law enforcement did not directly address this specific incident, they confirmed that all prior calls to the residence will be considered by the investigative team to piece together the motive behind the unfortunate event.

Currently, law enforcement is actively searching for at least one suspect in connection to the shooting, but no detailed suspect description is available at this time.

The area experienced a heightened police presence post-incident, with officers conducting door-to-door inquiries with neighbours. Yellow police tape cordoned off a section of the street as the investigation progressed.

Following the shooting, two local schools were briefly placed under hold-and-secure orders as a precautionary measure, a protocol that has since been lifted.

In a official statement, Vaughan Mayor Steven Del Duca expressed deep concern in light of two recent gun-related tragedies, including the fatal shooting at Vaughan Mills shopping centre earlier in the week. Del Duca reassured residents that York Regional Police are diligently working to ensure the community’s safety.
