Maryland Women's Basketball Game Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Shyanne Sellers scored 21 of her 25 points in the fourth quarter, leading No. 19 Maryland to a 74-60 victory over Indiana on Thursday night. The game took place at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall as the Terrapins secured their fourth consecutive win in the Big Ten.

Maryland entered the game looking to maintain momentum after two of their key players were sidelined by injury. Sellers, however, stepped up significantly, shooting 5 of 7 from the field and converting all eight of her free throws in the decisive fourth quarter.

After trailing by 10 at halftime, Indiana appeared to rally late in the third quarter. Yarden Garzon hit a crucial 3-pointer, narrowing the score to 39-37. Yet, Sellers quickly responded with a layup, fueling a 15-5 run that pushed Maryland’s lead to 54-42 early in the final frame.

Although Indiana managed to cut the deficit to 61-55 with just over three minutes remaining, they could not close the gap further. Kaylene Smikle added six of her 16 points during a solid second quarter for Maryland, which outscored Indiana 16-6 during that time.

Sellers’ performance was especially impressive, marking her sixth game of the season with 20 or more points. Overall, she has scored in double figures in 22 of 26 games this season. Christina Dalce contributed with 11 points, while Allie Kubek grabbed 11 rebounds along with six points.

For Indiana, Garzon finished the night with 18 points, and Shay Ciezki added 15. The Hoosiers, now at 17-11 overall and 9-8 in the conference, have lost four of their last six games. Head coach Teri Moren expressed concern over her team’s recent struggles but acknowledged the better effort in the second half.

Maryland’s victory also marked their first win at Assembly Hall in more than five years. With the win, the Terrapins improved to 22-6 overall and 12-5 in the Big Ten and are currently positioned fourth in the conference standings. They will look to secure a double-bye in the upcoming Big Ten Tournament with a victory against No. 12 Ohio State on Sunday.

Following the game, coach Brenda Frese remarked, “We displayed resilience, especially in the fourth quarter. Shyanne stepped up when we needed her the most.”

Indiana will aim to regroup in their final regular-season game against rival Purdue on March 2.
