NEW YORK — In the new series “The Better Sister,” premiering May 29 on Prime Video, a high-profile murder draws estranged sisters Chloe and Nicky back into each other’s lives. Starring Jessica Biel and Elizabeth Banks, the show blends family drama and crime thriller, compelling viewers to keep binge-watching.

Chloe, played by Biel, is a successful editor for a women’s lifestyle magazine and an outspoken advocate in the #MeToo movement. Nicky, played by Banks, has struggled with addiction while raising her teenage son, Ethan. Their fractured relationship must be mended when Ethan becomes the prime suspect in the murder of his stepfather, Adam.

Chloe and Nicky’s troubled past comes to the surface as they battle their emotions and work together to save Ethan from a potential prison sentence. The tension escalates when it is revealed that Adam, portrayed by Corey Stoll, was involved in illegal dealings, raising questions about who truly benefits from his death.

As the sisters navigate a media circus surrounding the murder, they are joined by a diverse cast, including Lorraine Toussaint and Matthew Modine, who deepen the story’s complexity. The character of detective Nan Guidry, played by Kim Dickens, adds a snarky edge to the police investigation.

“The Better Sister” derives from Alafair Burke’s novel and is coproduced by Regina Corrado and Olivia Milch, who bring seasoned storytelling talents to the series. Full of secrets, class struggles, and female empowerment themes, this show creatively explores the tangled dynamics of family and loyalty.

Although the murder mystery unfolds with precision, the series also challenges viewers to reflect on societal issues while remaining engaging and entertaining. With its strong performances and relatable dilemmas, “The Better Sister” promises to keep audiences guessing and invested in the characters.
