Sixers Aim for Play-In Tournament After Midseason Shake-Up

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — The Philadelphia 76ers find themselves outside the playoff picture as they enter the final stretch of the regular season, a situation that has fallen short of pre-season expectations. Despite the current standings, one of the team’s recent acquisitions remains optimistic about their chances in the upcoming play-in tournament.
After making a significant midseason move, the 76ers traded Caleb Martin to acquire guard Quentin Grimes, a former first-round pick. Grimes has displayed promising three-and-D potential early in his career and aims to provide a complementary skill set to the team.
Speaking to reporters following practice on Wednesday, Grimes expressed confidence in the team’s ability to compete after the All-Star break. “The last 28 games just locking in, don’t look too far down the line, take it one step at a time,” Grimes said. “The play-in is kinda built for a team like us because if we get in, we can make anything happen.”
Grimes has made an impact since joining the 76ers, scoring in double figures in each of his first four games. His standout performance came against the Brooklyn Nets in the final game before the All-Star break, where he scored 30 points in a close four-point loss.
As they return from the break, the 76ers remain within striking distance of the play-in tournament, currently sitting in 11th place and trailing the 10th-place Chicago Bulls by one-and-a-half games. Their upcoming game against the reigning champion Boston Celtics on Thursday night will be critical in their effort to secure a play-in spot.
