Skye P. Marshall Reveals On-Screen Chemistry Secrets with Jason Ritter in ‘Matlock’
LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Skye P. Marshall, star of CBS‘s hit series ‘Matlock,’ recently opened up about her unexpected on-screen chemistry with co-star Jason Ritter, revealing she had no prior knowledge of him before their first chemistry read. The show, which premiered in September 2024, follows the complex love story of Olympia and Julian, played by Marshall and Ritter, respectively.
“During the chemistry read with myself and the actors reading for Julian, to be honest, I did not know who Jason Ritter was before that,” Marshall exclusively told Us Weekly. “I grew up with his father and I adored John Ritter. When I popped up on the Zoom, I definitely knew Jason’s face but I did not know that that was him until after the fact.”
Marshall praised Ritter’s ability to adapt to her acting style, describing him as an “incredible, active listener” who seamlessly matched her energy during scenes. “I just saw a guy who was there to do the work and have some fun. I intentionally was throwing curve balls, and he went with it in such a seamless way,” she said.
In ‘Matlock,’ Olympia and Julian navigate the challenges of co-parenting amid their divorce, with Olympia secretly moving on with another attorney, Elijah, played by Eme Ikwuakor. However, after her romance with Elijah ends, Olympia reconnects with Julian, only to face new obstacles when Julian admits to a past affair.
“Olympia is doing her best to create some kind of balance between work life and professional life with Julian. She’s learning how to build boundaries and how to process her pain while also showing up for other people’s pain,” Marshall explained. “She is not great at compartmentalizing.”
Despite the ups and downs, Marshall remains hopeful for her character’s future with Julian. “I believe in family, and I think they have such an adorable family. Julian coming to Olympia to reveal his secrets is proof that he wants to be better than his father. I’m hoping that one day they can start a new chapter,” she said.
Fans have also expressed their support for the couple, with Marshall noting, “I have not seen one person online say they don’t want Olympia and Julian to work out. That’s really sweet, but it’s also very petrifying.”
As for Elijah, Marshall hinted at potential future developments. “Honestly, I did not know what was going to happen between Olympia and Elijah. I hope we get to see more of him as well,” she said. “But the idea of these two relationships isn’t where we ping pong back and forth.”
‘Matlock’ airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on CBS, with new episodes streaming the next day on Paramount+.
