Sourabh Chandrakar to be Extradited to India in Connection with Mahadev Betting Scam
Sourabh Chandrakar, a prominent figure associated with the Mahadev betting app scandal, is set to be extradited to India following his arrest in Dubai. The arrest was made pursuant to an Interpol-issued red corner notice, linked to alleged money laundering and fraud activities tied to the app.
Chandrakar, alongside another promoter named Ravi Uppal, was detained late last year in response to India’s Enforcement Directorate (ED) request for a red corner notice. The ED, investigating the massive illegal betting operation facilitated by the app, previously filed charges against Chandrakar, obtaining a non-bailable warrant from a special court in Raipur.
The investigation by the ED into the Mahadev betting app unveiled illegal operations reportedly amounting to ₹5,000 crores. The app, which purportedly operated unauthorized gambling activities on various sports and other gambling formats, attracted a wide user base with promises of easy money. However, it allegedly concealed its operations through a series of offshore accounts and shell companies, channeling illegal proceeds internationally.
The revelations emerged after the ED conducted multiple raids across Chhattisgarh and other locations, uncovering significant evidence. These raids, which took place during the previous Congress regime in Chhattisgarh, not only exposed the app’s illicit activities but also implicated several powerful figures, raising questions about the infiltration of illegal operations in India’s financial framework.
The chargesheet filed by the ED reportedly includes evidence collected from digital devices, financial records, and documents pointing to the app’s substantial money laundering activities. The Mahadev betting scam is being heralded as a pivotal controversy in Chhattisgarh and beyond due to its vast scale and the involvement of high-profile individuals.
Sources suggest that Chandrakar will either be deported or extradited to India in the forthcoming days, which is expected to further the investigation into the extensive betting scandal.
