Southern University Hosts Homecoming Celebration
Baton Rouge—This weekend marks an exciting time for Southern University as it celebrates Homecoming with a series of events leading up to the highly anticipated game against Alcorn State.
Throughout the week, the university hosted a variety of activities under the theme “They Not Like Us,” engaging students and the community. These events included a comedy show, breakfasts at the student union, a health fair, a farmers market, and the coronation of Miss Southern.
The weekend’s festivities are set to continue with traditional and new events. A Greek Rowe Darty is scheduled for 2 p.m., followed by the 3rd Annual Vino on the Bluff at the Leon R. Tarver II Cultural and Heritage Center starting at 6 p.m.
Later in the evening, the F.G. Clark Activity Center will host the Break the Stage Greek Step Show at 7 p.m., culminating with a fireworks display at 10:30 p.m. to wrap up Friday’s celebrations.
Saturday begins with the Homecoming parade at 8 a.m., proceeding from Badley Road along Harding Boulevard, continuing onto Scenic Highway, and concluding at Scotlandville Magnet High School. The parade is expected to draw a large crowd and feature various floats and marching bands.
Fans are eagerly anticipating the Homecoming game, where Southern’s football team will perform their traditional Jag Walk to the stadium at 3 p.m. The game against Alcorn State is scheduled to kick off at 6 p.m., promising to be a thrilling event for spectators.
