SpongeBob SquarePants Joins Magic: The Gathering with New Card Drops

SEATTLE, Wash. — Magic: The Gathering publisher Wizards of the Coast is launching a new series of Secret Lair drops featuring the popular animated series SpongeBob SquarePants. Starting today, March 24, 2025, fans can purchase three themed collections that include iconic characters and memorable moments from the beloved Nickelodeon show.
The three drops — Legends of Bikini Bottom, Internet Sensation, and Lands Under The Sea — are available in either Rainbow foil or Non-foil variants. Non-foil options are priced at $29.99 each, while the foil versions retail for $39.99.
“These drops are a celebration of SpongeBob’s cultural impact and the joy it brings to fans and collectors,” said a Wizards of the Coast spokesperson. “With each card, we aim to evoke nostalgia while adding a unique twist to the gameplay of Magic: The Gathering.”
The Legends of Bikini Bottom drop features cards showcasing fan-favorite characters such as SpongeBob, Patrick Star, and Sandy Cheeks. The Internet Sensation pack includes cards based on some of the show’s most popular memes, including “Confused Mr. Krabs” and “Mocking SpongeBob.” Lastly, the Lands Under The Sea set presents stunning full-art versions of basic lands, depicting locations like Jellyfish Fields and Bikini Bottom.
Wizards of the Coast has indicated that these new additions aim to attract both Magic: The Gathering players and SpongeBob enthusiasts. “We expect these cards to resonate with a wide audience,” the spokesperson added. “If past Secret Lair drops are any indication, these sets will likely sell out quickly.”
Available bundles also make it easier for fans to snag all three collections, with a regular bundle priced at $85 and a foil bundle at $115, offering a small discount compared to purchasing each set individually.
As part of the broader “Our Boss Is On Vacation” Superdrop, these SpongeBob-themed collections accompany other creative sets. “Customers can look forward to a variety of styles, from retro 80s themes to classic cartoon artwork,” the spokesperson noted.
Magic: The Gathering players are encouraged to act quickly, with the sets projected to sell fast. Current inventory indicates that the bundles are already generating significant online interest as collectors prepare to enhance their decks with these limited edition cards.
