Standoff Ends Tragically in Whittemore Domestic Assault Incident

WHITTEMORE, Mich. (WNEM) – A domestic assault incident in Whittemore concluded fatally on Wednesday night, March 5, when a suspect died after barricading himself in a home, according to Michigan State Police (MSP).
The situation unfolded around 3:45 p.m. when MSP troopers responded to a report of a domestic assault in the 300 block of North Street. The police reported that the victim managed to escape the residence with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The victim is currently receiving medical treatment and is reported to be in good condition.
Upon arrival, troopers discovered that a 45-year-old male suspect had barricaded himself inside the home. The Emergency Support Team attempted to establish communication with the suspect for several hours. Eventually, officers found the man dead in the attached garage.
No other injuries were reported during the incident, which is presently under investigation. Michigan State Police emphasized the importance of seeking help for those affected by domestic violence, encouraging individuals to call 211 for local resources and 911 in emergency situations.
