Jack Sawyer Ohio State Linebacker Nfl Draft

Pittsburgh, PA – The Pittsburgh Steelers selected outside linebacker Jack Sawyer from Ohio State with the 123rd overall pick in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft on Saturday.

After waiting until Day 3 of the draft, Sawyer’s dream of playing in the NFL became a reality. He joins the Steelers as the second Ohio State defensive end picked in this draft, following teammate JT Tuimoloau, who was selected in the second round. This marks the first time since 2018 that multiple Ohio State defensive ends have been drafted in the same cycle.

Before heading to the NFL, Sawyer established himself as a Buckeye legend. He played a pivotal role in Ohio State’s impressive four-game College Football Playoff run, amassing 13 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and a team-high seven pass breakups in 2024. His standout moments include a memorable scoop-and-score play that helped propel the Buckeyes to the national championship.

Sawyer concluded his college career with impressive stats: 138 tackles, 25.5 tackles for loss, and 20 sacks over three seasons. He earned second-team All-Big Ten honors in both 2023 and 2024, highlighting his development into a key player for Ohio State’s defense.

The Steelers anticipate Sawyer’s transition to their 3-4 defense as an outside linebacker, a position that aligns with his skills. His combination of size, athleticism, and versatility makes him an exciting addition to the Steelers’ defensive lineup, where he will join veterans like Cameron Heyward.

“Jack’s relentless motor and ability to win with speed and power made him invaluable to Ohio State,” said a Steelers spokesperson. “We see him as a key part of our defensive identity moving forward.”

As the draft progresses, Sawyer’s selection reflects the Steelers’ commitment to strengthening their defense while also providing depth and talent in essential positions.
