‘Stranger Things’ Season 5 May Split Release, Delaying Final Episodes
LOS GATOS, Calif. — The highly anticipated fifth and final season of Netflix‘s “Stranger Things” may be split into two parts, with episodes potentially releasing in October and November 2025, according to industry sources. This would mark a continuation of Netflix’s recent trend of dividing seasons to extend subscriber engagement.
The show, which last aired its fourth season in mid-2022, is expected to return over three years later. Season 4 was split into two volumes, with seven episodes released in May 2022 and the final two episodes in July. While Netflix cited VFX delays as the reason for that split, the upcoming division appears to be a strategic move to retain subscribers for an additional month.
“It seems likely to happen,” said an industry insider, though Netflix has not officially confirmed the release strategy. The streaming giant has experimented with split seasons for other popular shows but has also returned to binge-release models for series like “The Lincoln Lawyer.”
Co-creator Ross Duffer recently shared photos from the final shoots of the series on social media, captioning one post, “That’s a wrap on Stranger Things. See you in 2025.” He praised the cast and crew, stating, “Everyone involved was determined to bring this story to a satisfying conclusion. They poured their hearts and souls into it, and we couldn’t be more proud of what they’ve accomplished.”
Speculation about the release date has centered on Nov. 27, 2025, coinciding with Thanksgiving in the U.S., which would allow fans to binge-watch over the holiday weekend. However, this date remains unconfirmed.
Season 5 will introduce new cast members, including Linda Hamilton, Alex Breaux, Nell Fisher, and Jake Connelly, in undisclosed roles. The final season is expected to deliver a blockbuster-level finale, potentially released as a standalone event.
Netflix has declined to comment on the release strategy or timeline. Fans of the Hawkins, Indiana-based sci-fi horror drama will have to wait for official announcements as the streaming giant finalizes its plans.
