Super Bowl TV Deals: Big Screens at Record Lows
NEW YORK, N.Y. — As the Super Bowl approaches, American consumers are once again drawn to the allure of massive televisions, with manufacturers and retailers capitalizing on the annual surge in demand. This year, prices for supersized TVs have plummeted to record lows, offering shoppers unprecedented deals on screens as large as 98 inches.
Historically, 55 inches was the standard for living-room TVs, but the trend has shifted dramatically. Today, 75- to 85-inch models are increasingly common, with some manufacturers even offering “XXL TVs” measuring 98 or 100 inches. These once-prohibitively expensive screens are now surprisingly affordable, with prices dropping as low as $1,500 during sales events like Black Friday and the Super Bowl.
“Just 10 years ago, a 98-inch LCD TV would have cost almost 100 times that much,” said Lee Neikirk, a tech expert specializing in home entertainment. “The market has changed dramatically, making these massive screens accessible to more consumers.”
However, purchasing a supersized TV requires careful consideration. The glossy screen finishes that enhance color vibrancy can also reflect light sources, making placement crucial. The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) recommends a 30-degree field of view for optimal viewing, which means sitting farther back for larger screens. Additionally, these TVs often lack advanced video processing, which can result in issues like banding or poor upconversion of lower-resolution content.
Weight is another factor to consider. These TVs can weigh between 100 and 150 pounds, necessitating professional installation or at least a second pair of hands. Wall-mounting requires a UL-rated mount capable of supporting the TV’s size and weight, and furniture must be sturdy enough to hold the screen securely.
For those considering alternatives, projectors remain a viable option, especially for media rooms with controlled lighting. While TVs excel in brightness and contrast, projectors offer flexibility in screen size and can deliver superior picture quality for sub-4K content.
As Super Bowl 2025 approaches, retailers are rolling out deals on high-performance TVs. Models like the Hisense U8N, TCL QM851G, Samsung QN90D, and Samsung S95D are available at or near their Black Friday prices, offering excellent value for sports enthusiasts. These TVs boast features like high brightness, anti-glare screens, and built-in ATSC 3.0 tuners for Next-Gen TV broadcasts.
“Whether your team makes it to the Super Bowl or not, watching football on a big screen is an experience like no other,” Neikirk added. “With prices this low, now is the perfect time to upgrade.”
