Wpl 2025 Cricket Match Super Over Action

BENGALURU, India — The UP Warriorz secured a thrilling victory against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in a dramatic Super Over on February 24, 2025, at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium during match nine of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025.

After winning the toss, UP Warriorz chose to bowl first. RCB, who previously suffered a loss to Mumbai Indians, aimed to redeem themselves but ultimately faced a nail-biting finish. RCB posted a total of 180 runs, led by Ellyse Perry’s explosive innings of 81 off 43 balls.

In response, the UP Warriorz mounted a valiant chase, with key contributions from Sophie Ecclestone and Chinelle Henry. The match concluded in a tie, prompting the unprecedented Super Over.

Officer Deepti Sharma explained the strategic decision to bowl first, stating, “The ball moves in the powerplay, and we want to capitalize on that. We have the same mindset as the last game.”

UP Warriorz’ previous match saw them secure their first win against Delhi Capitals, signaling their potential to upset. Meanwhile, RCB’s captain Smriti Mandhana noted the importance of starting strong, saying, “We have figured out a few things, and we need to apply them in this match.”

In the Super Over, the pressure escalated as both teams aimed for the win. UP Warriorz batted first, but faced a swift counterattack from RCB’s bowler. Ultimately, the match’s fate rested on the final delivery this time rather than individual performances, underscoring the thrilling unpredictability of T20 cricket.

The playing XI for RCB included Smriti Mandhana (c), Ellyse Perry, and newcomer Sneh Rana, while UP Warriorz featured their previously unchanged lineup, comprising Deepti Sharma (c) and Grace Harris. Mandhana remarked post-match, “This was a thrilling contest. It feels good to see our team performing under pressure, but we must work on closing out matches.”

The match underscored the growing competitive spirit in women’s cricket, especially within the WPL framework. Both teams are now eager to build on their performances as the tournament progresses, promising even more excitement in upcoming matches.
