Luke Mitchell Chicago Med Episode

CHICAGO, Ill. — Although Mitch Ripley has been suspended from his duties, he continues to find ways to help those in need. In the upcoming episode of Chicago Med, airing March 5, Ripley faces a life-threatening situation as he attempts to rescue a woman and her daughter trapped in an abandoned well.

The episode, titled “Down in a Hole,” features a mini crossover with Chicago Fire, bringing Ripley, played by Luke Mitchell, and character Mouch together again. Unlike previous incidents where the stakes involved a loved one’s life, this time it is Ripley who must confront his own peril amidst the rescue efforts.

In an interview, Mitchell shared about Ripley’s emotional state leading up to this episode. “He’s not great. He’s on a wild ride at the moment,” Mitchell said. “It feels as though he’s just going further and further downward. I fear he has to hit rock bottom, metaphorically, and maybe physically.”

Ripley’s downward spiral began when he returned from out of town and got involved in a minor traffic accident. Concerned he might have hurt someone, he got out of his car to investigate. This is when he discovers the occupants of the car have fallen into the well.

As he teams up with Mouch for the rescue, Mitchell expressed enthusiasm for working with the actor. “I had the pleasure of working with Christian during the crossover event. It was wonderful to have that experience again,” Mitchell said.

Filming this episode was a unique experience for the cast, as Mitchell described it. “It felt like we were shooting an independent movie because we had three days out on location about an hour and a half outside of Chicago.” He added, “It was surreal. We usually shoot all interiors for Chicago Med, so it was crazy to be filming outdoors during a cold snap.”

The promo suggests that Ripley himself might face serious danger after a collapse during the rescue operation. “Ripley’s in all of the trouble. This is at least a near-death experience,” Mitchell revealed. “It’s going to be something that shakes him and a lot of people up.”

Fans will need to tune in to NBC on Wednesday, March 5, at 8 p.m. CT to discover the outcome of this gripping episode. Past episodes of Chicago Med are available to stream on Peacock.
