Taal Volcano Experiences Three Minor Eruptions, Alerts Issued
MANILA, Philippines — Taal Volcano in Batangas had three minor eruptions on October 26, 2025, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.
A minor phreatic eruption occurred at 2:55 a.m., followed by two phreatomagmatic eruptions at 8:13 a.m. and 8:20 a.m. The eruptions produced ash plumes rising as high as 2,100 meters.
In its 24-hour observation bulletin, Phivolcs noted nine volcanic earthquakes, including two temblors lasting up to 96 minutes. Additionally, the agency detected slight swelling of Taal Volcano Island.
The average sulfur dioxide emission was recorded at 436 tons per day as of October 25, with the main crater lake temperature at 69.3 degrees Celsius.
Phivolcs has placed Taal at Alert Level 1, indicating low-level unrest. This status means the volcano could experience sudden steam-driven or gas-driven explosions without warning.
Entry into Taal Volcano Island, particularly around the main crater and Daang Kastila fissures, is strictly prohibited due to the risk of steam or phreatic explosions, as well as volcanic earthquakes and gas emissions.
