Taylor Swift’s Father Accused of Assaulting Paparazzo in Sydney Wharf Incident
Australian police are currently investigating a recent allegation made by a paparazzo, Ben McDonald, who has accused Scott Swift, the 71-year-old father of global pop sensation Taylor Swift, of assaulting him on a wharf in Sydney.
The incident unfolded after Scott Swift and Taylor disembarked from a yacht following the final Australian concert of Taylor Swift’s immensely popular Eras Tour. The confrontation took place at the Neutral Bay Wharf in the early hours of the morning as captured in footage by Australian media.
In the video, Taylor Swift, shielded by an umbrella, can be seen walking with her father and security guards amidst flashing cameras. Tensions escalate as two voices, believed to be a photographer and a guard, accuse each other of interference. While the footage doesn’t confirm the alleged assault, it hints at a heated exchange.
Ben McDonald, the paparazzo involved, informed the media that the altercation occurred after Taylor Swift had already entered a vehicle. According to McDonald, Scott Swift aggressively approached him, striking his face, an action that took McDonald by surprise given his two-decade career in celebrity photography.
A spokesperson for Taylor Swift addressed the incident by stating that two individuals had behaved aggressively towards Taylor and her team, with one even making threats towards a female staff member. The spokesperson did not directly comment on the assault accusation.
Following the incident, McDonald promptly reported the assault to the authorities, leading to an investigation by officers from the North Shore Police Area Command under the New South Wales Police jurisdiction.
Taylor Swift had just concluded her Australian leg of the Eras Tour, culminating in a massive performance at Accor Stadium that attracted a crowd of 81,000 fans. The singer’s promoters in Australia have refrained from commenting on the allegations as the investigation continues.
