Tesla Launches Factory Tow Package for Model 3 in North America

FREMONT, Calif. — Tesla has officially launched a factory tow package for the Model 3 in North America, ending years of speculation and aftermarket solutions. This new package is compatible only with the 2024+ Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive and All-Wheel Drive versions, specifically the redesigned ‘Highland’ model.
The long-awaited introduction aligns the North American Model 3 with its European counterpart, which has had a factory tow package since 2019. Previously, Tesla drivers in Canada and the U.S. relied on aftermarket options like the EcoHitch, which were not officially endorsed by Tesla and risked voiding warranties.
Priced at $1,765 in Canada and $1,300 in the United States, the tow package includes a high-strength steel tow bar with a 2-inch hitch receiver, a North American-standard 7-pin connector, a trailer harness, and a dedicated Tow Mode software package, distinguishing it from third-party alternatives.
According to Tesla, this setup supports towing up to 2,200 pounds (998 kg), making it suitable for lightweight trailers and small cargo carriers, although it is lower than the Model Y’s tow limit of 3,500 pounds (1,587 kg). Notably, ball mounts are not included, as they depend on the type of trailer used.
The launch comes after a similar introduction in Australia and New Zealand on May 12. North American customers can now enjoy the efficiency and convenience previously available to drivers in Europe, Australia, and Asia without compromising their vehicle’s warranty.
The tow package can be ordered directly through the Tesla Shop or via the Tesla mobile app.
