Houston Texans Coaching Staff 2024

HOUSTON, Texas — The Houston Texans are overhauling their offensive coaching staff after a lackluster 2024 season, head coach DeMeco Ryans announced Tuesday. Offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik and offensive line coach Chris Strausser will not return for the 2025 season.

Slowik, who spent two seasons with the Texans, oversaw an offense that ranked 24th in the NFL in total yards and 27th in scoring. The team struggled to find consistency, particularly in the running game, which averaged just 3.8 yards per carry.

“We appreciate Bobby and Chris for their hard work and dedication,” Ryans said in a statement. “However, we believe these changes are necessary to take the next step as a team.”

The Texans’ offensive line, coached by Strausser, allowed 45 sacks in 2024, the seventh-most in the league. The unit also failed to create consistent running lanes, contributing to the team’s struggles on the ground.

Ryans, who is entering his third season as head coach, emphasized the need for improvement. “Our goal is to build a championship-caliber team, and that starts with being more productive on offense,” he said.

The Texans have not yet announced replacements for Slowik and Strausser. League sources indicate the team is considering both internal candidates and external hires to fill the vacancies.

Houston finished the 2024 season with a 7-10 record, missing the playoffs for the third consecutive year. The team’s offense, led by rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud, showed flashes of potential but lacked consistency throughout the season.

Fans and analysts will be watching closely to see how the Texans address their offensive struggles in the offseason. The team holds the No. 12 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, which could be used to bolster the offensive line or add playmakers.
