Texas Longhorns Gear Up for Championship Game Against Saint Joseph’s After Impressive Win
The Texas Longhorns are set to face the Saint Joseph’s Hawks in the championship game of the UKG Legends Classic on Friday, November 22, at Brooklyn‘s Barclays Center. This matchup follows a significant win for the Hawks, who defeated the No. 24 Texas Tech Red Raiders 78-77 in the same tournament on Thursday night.
In their previous game, the Longhorns dominated Mississippi Valley State with a 89-43 victory, with senior forward Arthur Kaluma and guard Johnson each scoring 18 points. Kaluma also recorded his second double-double of the season with 16 points and a game-high 10 rebounds in the Longhorns’ win over Syracuse earlier in the tournament.
The Longhorns, currently standing at 4-1, are seeking their first regular-season neutral-site multi-team event (MTE) title since the 2020 Maui Invitational. Texas leads the series against Saint Joseph’s with a 4-0 record, with their last meeting resulting in a 68-50 Texas win in 2008.
Saint Joseph’s, now 4-1, is coming off a thrilling victory against Texas Tech, where Erik Reynolds II led with 26 points, Xzayvier Brown scored 20 points, and Rasheer Fleming contributed 14 points along with seven rebounds. The Hawks’ strong performance from beyond the arc, including a season-high 12 three-pointers, was crucial in their win.
The championship game will be televised nationally on ESPNU, with tipoff scheduled for 9:30 p.m. Eastern Time).
