Texas Tech Basketball Team In Action

Texas Tech‘s men’s basketball team is gearing up for their second game of the season, hosting Northwestern State on November 8, 2024. Following a strong season-opening win over Bethune-Cookman, the Red Raiders aim to move to 2-0 and continue their dominance in the early season.

In their previous game, Texas Tech matched a program record by making 16 3-pointers, with Kerwin Walton leading the team with a career-high seven 3-pointers and 21 points. This performance was part of a balanced attack where the entire starting five scored in double figures.

Head coach Grant McCasland is focusing on improving the team’s defense, particularly the on-ball pressure, which was a concern in the opener. The absence of point guards Elijah Hawkins and Christian Anderson due to lower-body injuries has impacted the team’s defensive performance, and their availability for the Northwestern State game is uncertain.

The game against Northwestern State marks a significant step up in competition for the Demons, who opened their season with a 96-55 victory over Dallas Christian College. Texas Tech, expected to be one of the better Big 12 squads this season, holds a 7-0 all-time record against Northwestern State, with the last meeting resulting in a 73-49 win for the Red Raiders on November 7, 2022.

The game will tip off at 8 p.m. Central and will be broadcast on ESPN+, with radio coverage provided by the Texas Tech Sports Network and streaming available through the Varsity Network App.
