Three-time Tamil Nadu Congress MLA Joins BJP Ahead of Lok Sabha Polls
Three-time Tamil Nadu Congress MLA S Vijayadharani made a significant political move by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the anticipated Lok Sabha elections. The formal induction took place at the BJP headquarters in Delhi, in the presence of Union Minister of State L Murugan, BJP in-charge Arvind Menon, and the party’s co-incharge for the state, Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy.
Vijayadharani’s decision came following her resignation from the primary membership of the Congress party, as announced through a social media post addressed to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. The veteran politician, who represented the Vilavancode Assembly constituency in Kanyakumari District, cited reasons such as the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the need to strengthen BJP for her shift.
The move is seen as a significant blow to the Congress party in Tamil Nadu, especially considering the upcoming Lok Sabha polls scheduled tentatively for April-May. With BJP making strategic efforts to expand its foothold in regions where it has traditionally been less influential, the addition of Vijayadharani to their ranks marks a notable development in the state’s political landscape.
Congress, which is part of the ruling alliance led by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in Tamil Nadu, now faces the challenge of retaining its support base amidst the changing political dynamics. The shift of a seasoned MLA like Vijayadharani signifies the evolving political equations in the state, setting the stage for an intriguing electoral battle in the upcoming polls.
