Tigers Look to Clinch Series Against Padres Tonight at Comerica Park

DETROIT, Michigan — The Detroit Tigers took the opening game of their series against the San Diego Padres on Monday night, aiming for their first home series win of the season. After winning against one of the best teams in baseball, the Tigers are looking to continue that momentum.
Manager AJ Hinch’s team is currently at the top of the American League Central, holding a slim half-game lead over their rivals, and they need to keep winning to fend off the competition. The Tigers will face off against the Padres again on Tuesday night at Comerica Park.
Detroit will send Jack Flaherty to the mound, who is looking to bounce back after a tough outing in his last game, where he allowed three runs over 4 2/3 innings. Despite that setback, Flaherty has shown strong potential through most of the season, with three quality starts out of four appearances.
Flaherty, with a 2.53 ERA and 1-1 record this season, has been effective with his strikeouts, although he did allow a home run in his earlier performance. On the other side, seasoned veteran Nick Pivetta of San Diego will take the mound. Pivetta enters the game with a solid ERA of 1.57 and a record of 3-1, notably striking out a season-high 10 batters in his last game.
Both teams have been competing fiercely, and the Tigers are eager to secure another win to solidify their position in the standings. The game is set to start at 6:40 p.m. ET at Comerica Park.
“We’re energized and focused,” said Hinch. “Every game counts, and we’re taking this series very seriously.”
