Tij Iginla, following in the footsteps of his legendary father Jarome Iginla, has made a mark in the NHL draft as the sixth overall pick by the Utah Hockey Club.

The Utah Hockey Club, recently relocated from Arizona, made a significant move by selecting Iginla, a standout forward from the Kelowna Rockets, a team based in Lake Country.

Kelowna Rockets fans will celebrate the selection of Iginla, who showcased his talent with an impressive 47 goals and 84 points over 64 games during the 2023-2024 season.

Jarome Iginla, a prominent figure in the NHL and a former Dallas Stars player, saw his son Tij carry on the family legacy with this first-round selection, marking a special chapter in the Iginla hockey dynasty.

RINK Hockey Academy, based in Kelowna, played a vital role in Tij Iginla’s development as a player, shaping him for the competitive NHL draft stage.

Prior to his WHL success, Iginla honed his skills with the Boston Jr. Eagles in Massachusetts, demonstrating his versatility and talent across different leagues before impressing in the Kelowna Rockets jersey.

Not since Lassi Thomson‘s selection by Ottawa in 2019 has a Kelowna Rocket been chosen in the first round of the NHL Draft, making Iginla’s achievement a standout moment for the franchise.
