Timberview High School Shooting Survivor Killed in Arlington Apartment Shooting
ARLINGTON, Texas — A 19-year-old man who survived being shot four times during a 2021 school shooting at Timberview High School was killed in a shooting at an Arlington apartment complex Monday night, authorities said.
Arlington police responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 5:50 p.m. on the 2400 block of Laurelwood Drive. Officers found Zacchaeus Selby-Mukum, 19, lying in the parking lot with a gunshot wound. He was transported to a hospital, where he later died, according to police.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed Selby-Mukum’s identity but has not yet released an official cause of death. Police said they have no evidence linking Monday’s shooting to the 2021 incident at Timberview High School.
Witnesses told investigators they heard arguing before gunshots were fired. As of Tuesday, no suspects have been identified, and no arrests have been made. Detective Andrew VanTreeck is leading the investigation and urged anyone with information to contact police at 817-459-5691.
Selby-Mukum was critically injured in the October 2021 shooting at Timberview High School, which began as a fight between him and then-18-year-old Timothy George Simpkins. Simpkins pulled a handgun from his backpack and fired multiple shots, injuring Selby-Mukum and three others, including two teachers and a student.
Selby-Mukum sustained gunshot wounds to his chest, stomach, arm, and leg and was placed on a ventilator in a medically induced coma during his recovery. Simpkins was convicted of attempted capital murder in July 2023 and sentenced to 12 years in prison, along with a $6,000 fine.
Monday’s shooting marks another tragic chapter in Selby-Mukum’s life, which was forever altered by the 2021 school shooting. His family has not yet released a public statement regarding his death.
