Timberwolves Vs Rockets Nba Game Preview

HOUSTON, Texas — The Minnesota Timberwolves are set to resume their season following the All-Star Weekend with a pivotal matchup against the Houston Rockets on February 21, 2025, at 8:30 PM CST at the Toyota Center.

Coming off a long break, the Timberwolves (currently in the playoff hunt) will need to shake off any rust as they embark on a critical four-game stretch against top teams in the Western Conference. The Wolves look to build on a recent gritty win against the Oklahoma City Thunder, despite missing a significant portion of their roster.

“We’ve had a lot of time to think about the road ahead,” Timberwolves coach Chris Finch said. “Every game is crucial now as we push for the playoffs.”

The Timberwolves are navigating injury challenges, with key players such as Donte DiVincenzo and Julius Randle still sidelined. However, Mike Conley is expected to return to the lineup, which should bolster Minnesota’s offense. Anthony Edwards, after sitting out the All-Star Game due to a hip issue, has shown his readiness to contribute.

“We’re excited to get back on the court,” Edwards said. “It’s a long stretch ahead, but we believe we can compete with anyone.”

The matchup against the Rockets is anticipated to be a physical contest, echoing the intensity of previous encounters where Minnesota narrowly edged Houston in their last three meetings. The Rockets will look to exploit their rebounding advantage, led by Alperen Sengun, who averages 10.5 rebounds per game.

“The Rockets play tough, and we know what to expect,” Finch emphasized. “We need to control the boards and limit their second-chance opportunities.”

Statistically, Houston has been formidable, especially on the offensive glass, where they lead the league with 14.7 offensive rebounds per game. Jalen Green is also a key player for the Rockets, averaging 21.4 points in his last ten games but can be inconsistent at times.

The Timberwolves stand with an 8-9 record in one-possession games, making their upcoming contests rather critical as they chase a playoff spot. Their performance against the Rockets could set the tone for this grueling stretch.

“It all starts with this game,” Finch added. “We have to establish our identity, play hard, and set the pace.”

As the Timberwolves prepare for the game, the stakes remain high in the Western Conference, where every win is vital. Minnesota hopes to upend the Rockets and continue their push towards a playoff berth.
