Toledo Rockets Dominate Stetson 103-78, Set Sights on Jacksonville State
The University of Toledo men’s basketball team delivered a resounding 103-78 victory over Stetson on Thursday night in the opening round of the Boardwalk Battle in Daytona Beach, Florida. This win marked the Rockets’ fourth consecutive victory, improving their record to 4-1.
Sophomore Sonny Wilson led the Rockets with an impressive 21 points and six assists. Junior Seth Hubbard contributed a season-high 17 points, while other key contributors included sophomore Sam Lewis with 15 points, fifth-year senior Isaiah Adams with 12 points, sophomore Javan Simmons with 11 points, and sophomore Bryce Ford with 10 points. The team’s offensive efficiency was highlighted by a season-high 56.9% shooting from the field and a season-best 13 three-point field goals, with seven different players connecting from beyond the arc.
The Rockets’ defense was equally impressive, committing just five turnovers while forcing Stetson into 17 turnovers. This led to a significant 24-9 advantage in points off turnovers. Toledo held a commanding 51-35 lead at halftime and maintained a double-digit lead for the majority of the game.
Following this decisive win, the Toledo Rockets are set to face Jacksonville State (4-1) in the semifinals of the Boardwalk Battle on Friday at 5:30 p.m. at the Ocean Center. Jacksonville State is coming off an 86-78 win over East Carolina and will look to build on that momentum. The Gamecocks are led by Jaron Pierre Jr., who averages 25.8 points and 3.8 assists per game.
The upcoming game is expected to be highly competitive, with both teams boasting strong offensive performances this season. Toledo averages 83 points per game on 48% shooting from the field, while Jacksonville State averages 80.5 points per game on 48.8% shooting from the field.
