Tom Cruise Actor Impact Film Industry

Los Angeles, CA — Amy Nicholson, a film critic for the Los Angeles Times, shared her insights on Tom Cruise, referring to him as “the last movie star.” In her recent interview, she discussed his significant impact on the film industry and the importance of his presence today.

Nicholson has written extensively about Cruise, including a book titled “Tom Cruise: Anatomy of an Actor.” She emphasizes how his career has shaped modern cinema, stating, “When I look back at his career, what I really feel is how much we need someone like him today.”

She pointed out that during his peak, Cruise’s movies were not only box office successes but also set a certain tone in Hollywood. “He was setting the tenor,” Nicholson remarked. She lamented that current films often feel like they revolve around franchises and intellectual properties, making them less unique.

In her critique, she expressed frustration over Cruise’s recent focus on the “Mission: Impossible” and “Top Gun” franchises, suggesting that this leaves little room for original storytelling. “I think why I get so frustrated with his career now is when he’s stuck doing the Mission: Impossible/Top Gun tango, it makes me think that that person can’t exist right now,” she said.

Nicholson concluded with a hopeful note, saying, “I want to believe that I’m wrong. I want to believe that someone can turn this around.” Her reflections come just as Cruise’s latest film is set to hit theaters on May 22.
