Sydney, Australia — Tom Hanks is set to reprise his role as Captain Krause in the much-anticipated sequel to the 2020 film ‘Greyhound.’ Production is scheduled to begin in January 2026 in Sydney, Australia, according to industry sources.

The Oscar-winning actor is not only returning to the role but has also penned the script for the follow-up. Director Aaron Schneider and producer Gary Goetzman will also return for this new chapter in the story of the Greyhound crew, which will follow their journey from the beaches of Normandy to battles in the Pacific Theater during World War II.

Industry insiders report that discussions are ongoing to bring back key cast members from the original film. This includes Stephen Graham, who has recently received rave reviews for his performance in the Netflix movie ‘Adolescence.’ While deals have not yet been finalized, expectations remain high that the main cast will return.

The first ‘Greyhound’ film depicted Hanks as an inexperienced U.S. Navy commander tasked with leading an Allied convoy across the Atlantic while evading German U-boats. It is based on C.S. Forester’s 1955 novel ‘The Good Shepherd‘ and was well-received for its realistic portrayal of naval combat.

Set against the backdrop of the Battle of the Atlantic, the sequel promises to expand the narrative to include significant battles in the Pacific, where naval operations included engagements like the Battle of Savo Island and the New Georgia campaign.

While the sequel adds to Apple’s growing portfolio of World War II dramas, including the limited series ‘Masters of the Air,’ the production location has faced criticism. U.S. crew advocates express concern over the continued outsourcing of production jobs abroad, particularly during a time when the film industry is recovering economically.

Despite the challenges, the excitement for the sequel remains palpable among fans and industry colleagues alike. No release date has been announced, but a 2027 debut is anticipated, aligning with the planned production schedule.
