Top Shooter Oziyah Sellers Transfers to St. John’s

QUEENS, N.Y. — Oziyah Sellers, a standout shooter formerly with Stanford, has announced his transfer to St. John's University, aiming to bolster the team’s shooting capabilities ahead of the upcoming season. Sellers confirmed the move in an interview with The New York Post on Wednesday.
The addition of Sellers, who is considered one of the top prospects in the transfer portal, aligns with St. John’s coach Rick Pitino‘s objective to enhance the team’s offensive performance. Sellers expressed enthusiasm about joining St. John’s, stating, “Going into my senior year, I wanted to play in the biggest market possible and just hearing Pitino’s plans for me going into the season, it kind of felt like a no-brainer.”
Sellers, who has spent his entire collegiate career on the West Coast, acknowledged the significance of transitioning to New York. “Obviously I’ve been on the west coast my whole life, so making that move was a big move for me, but it was something I trusted and was fully confident with,” he added.
This strategic recruitment comes as Pitino and his coaching staff aim to address previous shooting challenges faced by the team. Last season, St. John’s struggled with offensive consistency, particularly from beyond the arc, making Sellers’ sharpshooting skills a valuable addition.
Sellers’ impressive track record at Stanford, where he proved to be a high percentage shooter, has made him a desirable target in the competitive transfer landscape. His experience and skill set are expected to provide immediate benefits to the Red Storm, who are looking to elevate their status in the Big East conference.
