Toto Wolff and Christian Horner Reignite Feud Over Susie Wolff Allegations and Team Dynamics
Toto Wolff, the team principal of Mercedes F1, has sparked a renewed feud with his Red Bull counterpart, Christian Horner, following recent comments about allegations involving Horner’s wife, Susie Wolff. In an interview with the UK’s Guardian, Wolff discussed a short-lived investigation from last year that centered on potential information sharing between a Formula One Management (FOM) employee and an F1 team boss, which briefly implicated Susie Wolff, who is the managing director of the F1 Academy.
Wolff expressed his dissatisfaction with Horner’s initial reluctance to sign a document showing support for Susie Wolff during the investigation. Wolff stated, ‘I can take lots of s**t… But if your wife is being dragged into a conflict she has nothing to do with, and her reputation is immaculate, that’s where the fun stops.’ This has highlighted the long-standing tense relationship between the two team principals, particularly exacerbated during the 2021 title fight.
Horner responded to Wolff’s comments, expressing his surprise and disappointment. Speaking to the Daily Mail, Horner mentioned that when he was facing internal investigations earlier in the year, Wolff and other rival teams attempted to capitalize on his situation. Horner emphasized the competitive nature of the sport but criticized the manner in which Wolff and others handled the situation.
The feud between Wolff and Horner continues to be a significant aspect of the Formula 1 landscape, reflecting the intense rivalry between their teams. This latest exchange comes on the heels of other recent comments from Wolff, including his reflections on Lewis Hamilton‘s decision to leave Mercedes for Ferrari and the performance of Mercedes at the Las Vegas Grand Prix).
