Tottenham’s Rodrigo Bentancur Suffers Serious Injury in Liverpool Match
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur suffered a serious injury during a match against Liverpool on Wednesday, forcing him to be stretchered off the pitch. The incident occurred during a Carabao Cup semi-final clash at Anfield, where Bentancur landed awkwardly after challenging for the ball in the air.
The 27-year-old Uruguayan appeared to injure his right arm as he hit the ground, with his arm bending unnaturally. Players from both teams immediately signaled for medical assistance, and Bentancur received treatment for approximately seven minutes before being carried off on a stretcher. Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou was forced to make an early substitution, bringing on Brennan Johnson to replace the injured midfielder.
Bentancur’s injury adds to Tottenham’s ongoing injury crisis, which has seen the team field several young players in recent matches. Among them was 17-year-old Archie Gray, who started at center-back, and new signing Antonin Kinsky, who made his debut after joining from Slavia Prague earlier this week.
This setback comes as a blow to Bentancur, who only recently returned from a seven-game suspension following an incident involving teammate Son Heung-min. He made his comeback in Tottenham’s Boxing Day match against Nottingham Forest.
As of now, there has been no official update on the extent of Bentancur’s injury or his expected recovery time. The incident has raised concerns among fans and teammates alike, as Tottenham continues to navigate a challenging season plagued by injuries and suspensions.
