Caden Tellier Memorial Service

SELMA, Ala. — A memorial service held on Monday, August 26, 2024, brought together students, teachers, and community members to honor the life of Caden Tellier, a 16-year-old quarterback from Morgan Academy.

Caden Tellier tragically passed away on Saturday, August 24, following a severe brain injury sustained during a football game against Southern Academy the previous night. This upcoming school year began on a solemn note, as students donned maroon and gold in remembrance of their beloved classmate and friend.

Jamie Tellier, Caden’s father, addressed the mourners, expressing gratitude for the tremendous support his family received during this challenging time. “There has been an outpouring of love that we have received from everyone in this room and people across the country,” Jamie Tellier remarked.

During the memorial, Jamie shared personal anecdotes about Caden’s character and faith, emphasizing that his son was more than an athlete; he was a young man who cherished his faith and sought to share love with others. He reflected on Caden’s generosity and nurturing spirit, particularly towards his younger cousins.

Outside the Morgan Academy, visitors paid their respects by leaving flowers, balloons, and heartfelt notes in the student parking lot, marking a somber tribute to Caden’s memory. The school’s headmaster, Bryan Oliver, affirmed that the collective grief surrounding Caden’s loss illustrates the profound impact he had on the community.

This incident has further sparked discussions on the safety of tackle football, as injuries at various levels of play raise concerns among parents and families. Caden’s parents noted that as an organ donor, he would continue to give life after his passing. Morgan Academy is suspending all sports activities for the week in light of this tragedy, including the scheduled football game against Wilcox Academy.
