Troy Baker Overcame Initial Doubts to Excel as Indiana Jones in ‘Indiana Jones and the Great Circle’
In a surprising turn of events, Troy Baker, the renowned voice actor known for his roles in various video games, faced initial skepticism from Bethesda‘s Todd Howard when he was suggested to play Indiana Jones in the new game ‘Indiana Jones and the Great Circle‘. Despite his acclaimed reputation, Howard was hesitant, fearing that players would easily recognize Baker’s voice due to his widespread presence in the gaming industry.
Baker revealed in an interview that he initially turned down the role but was convinced by the capture team at MachineGames to audition. During the audition process, Baker made it to the final two candidates, and in a blind test, Howard consistently picked his voice. This marked a significant shift in Howard’s perception, as he eventually came to appreciate Baker’s performance.
Despite landing the role, Baker expressed that he was not confident and feared being fired. However, after receiving an email from Howard praising his work, saying “You’re doing a hell of a job,” Baker felt relieved and more secure in his role.
MachineGames Design Director Jens Andersson praised Baker’s ability to channel the essence of Harrison Ford‘s iconic character, noting that Baker’s voice was indistinguishable from the voice samples of Ford used as references. This endorsement highlights Baker’s successful portrayal of Indiana Jones in the game.
