Tudor Dixon Considers 2026 Bid for Michigan Senate or Governor

ADRIAN, Michigan — Tudor Dixon, a Republican business executive and commentator, announced Tuesday that she is seriously considering another run for statewide office in Michigan in 2026. The former gubernatorial nominee is weighing a bid for either the open Senate seat or the governor’s office as incumbent Gretchen Whitmer is term-limited.
“I want to do the most good for our beloved state. That’s why I’m considering a run for governor or U.S. Senate,” Dixon stated in her social media announcement. “Both races present unique opportunities and different ways to benefit Michigan.” The decision comes after her loss in the 2022 gubernatorial election, where she was defeated by Whitmer by ten points.
Dixon also expressed her support for President Donald Trump, stating that he is “leading the way nationally.” She highlighted his efforts to secure the border and boost energy independence, emphasizing her commitment to the America First agenda in Michigan. Trump’s endorsement in 2022 was pivotal in securing her position as the GOP gubernatorial nominee.
With Whitmer stepping aside, the political landscape for the 2026 elections is rapidly shifting. State Senate Minority Leader Aric Nesbitt declared his candidacy for governor earlier this year, while several Democrats, including Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson and Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist, have already announced their intentions to run.
Detroit’s Democratic Mayor Mike Duggan has also made headlines, announcing his campaign as an independent. Additionally, the Senate race is poised to be competitive, with retiring Democratic Senator Gary Peters not seeking re-election. Former Republican Rep. Mike Rogers has indicated he is “strongly considering” another Senate run, bolstered by his past political experience and recent campaign strategies.
The race promises to attract various candidates from both parties. Democrats are expected to field several contenders, including State Sen. Mallory McMorrow, who gained national attention for her speeches countering GOP rhetoric. Other Democratic prospects include two-term Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel and Congresswoman Haley Stevens.
As the political dynamics evolve in Michigan, Dixon’s potential candidacy could significantly influence the Republican field, especially given her alignment with the Trump administration. She stated she will make a decision soon regarding where her experience could do the most good for Michigan.
