Tyler Shough’s Draft Stock Rises as NFL Draft Approaches

Louisville, KY — Tyler Shough, a 25-year-old quarterback, has seen his NFL draft stock climb as the April 2025 draft approaches. Initially viewed as a late-round pick, Shough is now being touted as a potential Day 2 selection. He began his collegiate career at Oregon as the backup to NFL star Justin Herbert before transferring to Texas Tech and then to Louisville for his final season.
In 2024, Shough took on the role of starting quarterback, throwing for an impressive 3,195 yards, with 23 touchdowns and just six interceptions. Despite his advanced age compared to typical draft prospects, analysts believe his experience adds to his appeal.
“After forgoing a quarterback in the first round, the Giants could acquire a talented passer like Shough in the third round,” ESPN analyst Mel Kiper Jr. said. He highlighted Shough’s arm strength and noted that he would benefit from learning alongside established NFL quarterbacks like Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston.
Other analysts share varying opinions on where Shough might land. NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah mentioned that Shough demonstrated impressive timing and efficiency, especially in play-action scenarios, and finished his season with 28 passing completions of over 20 yards.
“Shough has a live arm and good mobility,” NFL Draft expert Dane Brugler stated, although he emphasized the need for improvement in decision-making and discipline in his reads. “He has the potential to move up the depth chart quickly and contribute.”
As the draft draws near, Shough remains a focus for teams looking to bolster their quarterback options. The Cleveland Browns, who missed out on other top prospects, could consider selecting Shough as they seek a reliable man under center.
ESPN’s analytics team has projected Shough’s landing spot with the Giants in the third round. With the draft set to kick off on April 24, 2025, teams are intensely evaluating their options for this promising quarterback.
