Uche Ojeh, Husband of TODAY’s Sheinelle Jones, Dies at 45

NEW YORK, NY — Uche Ojeh, the husband of TODAY co-host Sheinelle Jones, has died at the age of 45 after a courageous battle with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. Savannah Guthrie announced his passing on May 23 during the TODAY broadcast, expressing profound sadness on behalf of the entire TODAY family.
Guthrie spoke fondly of Ojeh, describing him as an incredible person and a devoted husband to Sheinelle, with whom he shared a beautiful love story. The couple met in the late 1990s at Northwestern University. After an eight-year courtship, they married in September 2007 in Philadelphia, Sheinelle’s hometown. They welcomed their first son, Kayin, in 2009, followed by twins Uche and Clara in 2012.
Craig Melvin, a fellow co-host, remembered Ojeh as a dedicated father. “He loved those kids more than anything else in this world,” Melvin said. “He was that dad who was at every soccer game, every concert, every recital.” Ojeh’s dedication to his family was evident in every small gesture and celebration shared between him and Sheinelle.
Ojeh was known for his love of soccer and his active role in his church choir. His strong sense of faith and pride in his Nigerian heritage greatly influenced his family life, as he instilled cultural values in his children.
Earlier this year, Sheinelle shared her struggles with a family health matter, taking time off from the TODAY show to focus on her family. Despite her absence, her colleagues offered ongoing support, stating they were looking forward to her return when she felt ready.
Now, as the TODAY family reflects on Ojeh’s life, they remember him as not just a devoted husband and father but also as a man whose spirit touched everyone he met.
