Easter Prayers At Churches In Thrissur

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, India — On Easter Sunday, prominent BJP leaders in Kerala engaged with local communities by visiting several Christian churches to celebrate the holiday.

Union Minister Suresh Gopi led the outreach efforts, attending special Easter prayers at both Ollur Mary Matha Church and Puthanpally Mary Matha Catholic Church in Thrissur. His participation coincided with the vibrant celebration of Easter, a significant holiday for Christians around the world.

Meanwhile, state BJP president Rajeev Chandrasekhar also visited the Syro-Malabar Church, meeting with Archbishop Emeritus Cardinal Mar George Alencherry at the Lourde Forane Church in Palayam, Thiruvananthapuram. During this visit, Chandrasekhar extended Easter greetings and expressed hope that recent legislative changes, specifically the Waqf (Amendment) Act, would pave the way for resolutions regarding the ongoing Munambam issue.

“Let’s wait and see who resolves the Munambam issue,” Chandrasekhar stated, attributing the lack of resolution to the ruling political parties’ inaction. Additionally, he defended Union Minister of Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju’s earlier comments regarding the issue. “Union Minister Rijiju’s remarks were well-intentioned. I believe the Munambam issue will be resolved with the implementation of the Act once it comes out of the Supreme Court,” he added.

Cardinal Alencherry later clarified that the meeting with Chandrasekhar was informal and maintained a focus on community unity. He emphasized the importance of dialogue and collaboration during the discussions.

Chandrasekhar was accompanied by various BJP district leaders, including S. Suresh, during his church visits.

This Easter outreach not only reflects the BJP’s efforts towards community engagement but also highlights the party’s interest in addressing local issues amid a backdrop of political discourse.
