The Peel District School Board and the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board have announced an extended weekend from October 11 to October 14, 2024, for elementary and secondary students. This extension includes a Professional Activity (PA) Day on October 11, followed by Thanksgiving on October 14.

Similarly, students in the Halton District School Board and the Halton Catholic District School Board will also enjoy an extended weekend. The PA Day scheduled for October 11 is designated as a “Professional Activity day for school staff,” according to the Halton District School Board’s website, reiterating that there will be no classes for students. The Halton Catholic District School Board refers to this PA Day as “Faith Day.”

This schedule affects students in Oakville, Burlington, Milton, and Halton Hills, offering them a prolonged break encompassing the statutory holiday of Thanksgiving.

The Peel District School Board took to social media, including platforms like Instagram and Facebook, to remind parents and students of the upcoming schedule. A post dated October 7 emphasized, “Reminder: October 11 is a PA Day for elementary and secondary schools.” The Professional Learning Day is set to impact students in Brampton, Caledon, and Mississauga from kindergarten through grade 12, focusing on Provincial Education Priorities.

The upcoming break is anticipated to provide both students and teachers an opportunity to engage in enrichment activities and planning respectively, before resuming regular academic sessions post-holiday.

Parents and guardians are advised to make necessary arrangements for childcare and family activities during this extended break.
