Utah Utes QB Cam Rising Out Indefinitely Due to Leg Injury, Freshman Isaac Wilson to Take Over
Utah Utes quarterback Cam Rising has been sidelined indefinitely due to a lower leg injury sustained during the team’s 27-19 loss against Arizona State on Friday. The injury occurred during the Utes’ initial drive when Rising’s leg was contorted at an awkward angle after a hit. Despite finishing the game, Rising struggled with mobility and precision, completing just 43% of his passes and throwing three interceptions against the Sun Devils.
This is not the first time Rising has faced injury issues this season. He had already missed three games due to an injury affecting his throwing hand. Additionally, he did not participate in the entirety of the 2023 season following a significant knee injury sustained during the 2023 Rose Bowl.
In Rising’s absence, true freshman Isaac Wilson will take over as the starting quarterback for the Utes. Wilson, who is the younger sibling of Denver Broncos quarterback Zach Wilson, has previous experience stepping in for Rising. He has a 2-1 record as a starter, accumulating 726 passing yards, five touchdowns, and five interceptions.
Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham expressed confidence in the stability of the quarterback position despite Rising’s absence. “We believe the quarterback position remains stable. We just don’t have Cam,” Whittingham commented. There is currently no schedule for Rising’s return from this recent injury, and the possibility of an eighth season for Rising could be explored if he opts to pursue a medical waiver following this season.
