Fort Lauderdale, Florida — The Vancouver Whitecaps advanced to the final of the Concacaf Champions Cup after a stunning 3-1 victory over Inter Miami on April 30, 2025, clinching a 5-1 aggregate win.

After trailing 2-0 from the first leg, Inter Miami needed at least three goals to secure a spot in the final. However, the Whitecaps quickly leveled the match with a goal from Brian White in the 51st minute, followed by a second strike just two minutes later from Pedro Vite.

Despite an early lead for Miami, which came from a ninth-minute goal by Jordi Alba, the Whitecaps regained their composure and surged ahead in the second half. “It’s a great group. From the first game until now, we’ve shown who we are, and we deserve this,” Whitecaps midfielder Sebastian Berhalter said after the match.

Berhalter was instrumental in the win, contributing assists to both of the first two goals and scoring the final goal himself in the 71st minute. He has now accounted for all five of the Whitecaps’ goals in the semifinal but will miss the final due to yellow card accumulation.

“We need to improve, we have to look forward, we need to learn from this,” said Miami coach Javier Mascherano, expressing disappointment over his team’s performance amid their third consecutive loss.

The Whitecaps will face either Cruz Azul or Tigres UANL in the Champions Cup final on June 1, marking the first time the club has reached this stage in its history.

As the tournament draws to a close, the stakes are high for the Whitecaps, who aim not only for the title but also for a spot in the 2025 Intercontinental Cup and the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup.
